let’s talk industry…

In the past several days, I’ve had a lot of authors email me privately about the state of the industry (self-pub and otherwise. Most were pretty new writers and I found myself trying to say all of this to them, so I figured, maybe there are other writers out there who need to hear it too.

So this is not so much about the current scandal but more about the industry in general, particularly for newer writers who are like “wtf is wrong with this industry?” (and honestly, how much time do you have because we can sit … Read More »

Good Morning…

So, I own this shirt:

And I was wearing it the other day when I went outside to…

Wait, WTF was I doing outside?  Rarely happens.  Anyway, must’ve been a compelling reason, like an Amazon box gone astray.  And I saw one of my neighbors while wearing my shirt.

Neighbor: Do you wear that T-shirt around your son?

Neighbor: *frowns* Do you think that sends the right message?

Me: It’s fine. It’s not like he knows I have them.

Neighbor: *blinks*

Me: Have a great day!

I didn’t know that.  And the bus stop is literally three houses down.  There are several other kindergardeners on the bus, along with a fab monitor named Cathy who everyone in the neighborhood knows. … Read More »

my uncle, the Sopranos, and historical romance….

At first glance, I realize these might seem incongruous, but I assure you, there’s a story there.

So many of you know that my Dad died this past June. He was sick for a long time and I really thought that I’d mourned him through his illness (Parkinson’s took him before it took him, so I felt like he’d been gone for a much longer time than he’d been). A month before my dad, my Aunt Camille died (she was my grandmother’s sister, and the last of her brothers and sisters—the end of an era for sure). And then, just … Read More »
